He studied Lithuanian and comparative literature at the University of Vilnius and in Leipzig. In 2006 he completed his doctorate degree on exile in modern poetry at the University of Vilnius. Currently, he works as an author and translator.

Katkus took part at the »Literature Express Europe 2000.« Furthermore he was awarded a fellowship by the Baltic Center for Writers and Translators in Visby/Sweden in 2005, in 2004 a residency of the Literarisches Colloquium Berlin, as well as a grant for young artists from the Lithuanian Ministry of Culture in 2004 and 2000.
