Maarten Van Den Driessche studied architecture at the Faculty of Engineering, Department for Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Ghent from 1998 to 2002. In 2000/2001 he took part in an Erasmus exchange with the Ecole d’Architecture Paris-La-Villette in Paris.

Since October 2004, he has been preparing his doctorate on the typology of school buildings with Prof. Dr. Bart Verschaffel at the Faculty of Engineering, Department for Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Ghent, where he is currently also a research assistant. He was coordinator of a research on recent school architecture in Flanders.

With Bart Verschaffel he has published Charles Vandenhove. Gemeentehuis Ontmoetingscentrum Ridderkerk A&S-books (2005) and De school als ontwerpopgave. Recente schoolarchitectuur in Vlaanderen 1995-2005 A&S-Books/Vlaamse Gemeenschap. He was guest editor of a theme on school architecture of the architectural journal »OASE n°72 Back to school« (2007).

In 2002, he was given the Brick prize, a national student prize for graduation projects, and in 2007 he was the second laureate of the students award RNOSPECTO.
