Born 1977 in Germany.

Manuel Schwab lives and works part in Cairo and part in Berlin. He was born 1977 in Germany, but emigrated early. Trained in both Anthropology and Comparative Literature at Columbia University in New York, he received his PhD in 2015.

Currently employed as an assistant professor at the American University in Cairo, he spends his writing time on two simultaneous projects. One is a manuscript on value in crisis, based on his work on humanitarianism in Sudan, where he is concerned with how futures get built when you have to deal with a violent state and the story most often told about you is that you are human. The second, non-academic project is a manuscript about a manuscript seeking refuge in the world.

On the Academic side, his research has been funded by the Wenner-Gren Foundation and the Ford Foundation, among others. His non-academic writing has appeared in journals in Dubai, Sudan, Cairo, the USA, and Germany.
