Born 1948.

Hutter studied mathematics at the University of Munich and at Portland State University (B.A. 1970. At the University of Washington (Seattle), he studied economics (M.A.1971). He completed his doctorate degree at the University of Munich in 1976 and his postdoctoral lecture qualification in 1986.

Since March 2008 he is the head of the research institute „Kulturelle Quellen von Neuheit“ at the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin. From 1987 until February 2008 he was professor for economic theory and its environment at the University Witten/Herdecke. Hutter was the head of the provisional dean and dean of the faculty of Economic from 1990 until February 2008. From 1994 until 1996 he was president of the Association for Cultural Economics International (ACEI).

Hutter is co-editor of the magazine “Soziale Systeme. Zeitschrift für soziologische Theorie“.

Research residences: visiting scholar at the Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles, USA (2003), resident at the Rockefeller Foundation Study and Conference Center, Bellagio, Italy (2002), visiting scholar at the School for Information Management and Systems, UC Berkeley, USA (2001), visiting professor at the University Innsbruck, Austria and visiting professor at the University of Catania, Italy (1995).
