Born 1980 in Stara Zagora/Bulgaria.

Mladen Alexiev graduated in theater directing from the National Academy for Theater and Film Arts (NATFA)/Sofia in 2006. He works as theatre director. 

He was granted two international fellowships and has worked at the program »Residence and reflection« in the frame of Kunstenfestivaldesarts/Brussels and at Akademie Schloss Solitude.

Furthermore, he has directed various theater productions: »The Maids« by Jean Genet, »Nothing More Beautiful« by Oliver Bukowski, »Heart’s Desire« by Caryl Churchill , »The Turing Machine«, written in collaboration with psychobaiko and »Under Control« by Frederic Sonntag. In 2009, with the physical marathon »Abduction« based on documentary interviews, he started a long-term performative research project on body, politics and subjectivity.

In 2006, with the project »Transferatu«, a radio feature, Alexiev received the Main radio prize of the International Media Festival »8th Muse« in Sofia. In 2009, his production »Heart’s Desire«received three nominations for the prestigious Bulgarian theater prize »Icarus« for Director’s debut, Stage designer’s debut  and Best main actor and it won the prize in the category of Best main actor.

Mladen Alexiev has participated in different independent theater productions in Sofia, Belgrade/Serbia, Amsterdam/Netherlands and Berlin/Germany. In the period 2007–2011 he was a member of »Organization 36 monkeys« and part of the team of its long-term project »ProText«. Co-founder of the first in the country Independent Theatre Association (2009) and its festival Independent Theatre Festival (2011).
