5 Love Songs performed by the Solitude Sitting Ballet
video installation

»to the point where • my sitting solitude connects me • makes me equal • part of serial arrangement • the silent music • wakes my body • makes it shake • and my heart is wide and open • for the feeling I can borrow • if I dance for you while I am sitting • would you stand for me while watching • so then we both will be the audience and the director?«

The Bulgarian director Mladen Alexiev creates in his video-installation the image of an ideal society from which we are always excluded. 5 Love Songs depicts a quasi-utopian community of sitting people celebrating their loneliness together. Leaving the spectator ‘outside the group’ they are inviting him to join their harmonious world projecting his own feelings and reactions evoked by the music and the dances performed.

Mladen Alexiev (*1980 in Stara Zagora/Bulgarien) graduated in theater directing from the National Academy for Theater and Film Arts (NATFA) in Sofia in 2006. He has already directed various theater productions. In 2006, with the project »Transferatu«, a radio feature, together with Stanimir Panayotov and Kalin Nikolov, Alexiev received the main radio prize of the International Media Festival »8th Muse« in Sofia. Mladen Alexiev has participated in different independent theater productions in Sofia, Belgrade/Serbia and Amsterdam/Netherlands. Mladen Alexiev is a participant in the exchange program between Akademie Schloss Solitude and Inter Space Media Art Center, Sofia.
