After Italy, Spain, Great Britain, and New York, we are now reaching sad record numbers of the spreading pandemic from Brazil, flanked by a president who denies the seriousness of the situation – with devastating consequences. Before the outbreak of the pandemic, the Brazilian writer Vinicius Jatobá arrived at the Akademie Schloss Solitude as literature fellow. In March 2020, Jatobá was invited by Literaturhaus Stuttgart as a cooperation fellow, to reflect on »Saudade«, the Portuguese version of longing. Thanks to a fellowship extension in cooperation with Theater Freiburg, he will be able to stay in Stuttgart until the end of July. On July 7, Literaturhaus Stuttgart brings him on stage. In conversation with Ronald Grätz, they will talk about culture and literature in Brazil in a time of horror. Ronald Grätz, born in São Paulo/Brasilia, has been Secretary General of ifa – Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen since September 2008. From 1989 to 1992 he worked as a program teacher at the IOM in São Paulo and as vice-director of a UNESCO project school.

A cooperation of Literaturhaus Stuttgart and Akadamie Schloss Solitude.
