»The clearer the picture becomes the more its perfection departs from reality.« The Palestinian artist Dima Hourani focuses on the blurred images that are increasingly competing with the clear pictures on emerging media technology. In making and faking reality, the blurred picture, becomes intriguing material not only for media but also for art. Thereby, her concern is not the extent to which focused or blurred pictures convey reality. With the production of blurred objects, Dima Hourani wants to provoke viewers to question their visual experience.

Simone Rueß
Raum/Biografie 2016/17

In a continuous artistic research Simone Rueß investigates individual space perceptions, that develop according to biography, place and environment. Routines within social, temporal and historical structures create individual stereoscopic images, which are described to Simone Rueß in narrative interviews and then formalized by her into drawings. The steady growth of collections of most diverse ideas of space from all over the world is the starting point for performative studies together with other fellows in the for this purpose arranged space/biography LAB at Akademie Schloss Solitude in February/March 2017. The subsequent network of most diverse space biographies will be presented in the form of a collage of drawings.

With contributions from the space/biography LAB by Frauke Aulbert, Catherine Lamb, Nina Støttrup Larsen, Ana Mendes, Gavin Steingo, Jean-Lorin Sterian, Xinjun Zhang, amongst others.

»I took the first photograph at the Heidelberg Station during my Solitude fellowship. An old man was walking up the stairs, his hands crossed behind his back. A friend saw this picture, and asked me why I don’t make a series out of this. That’s how the idea came. In the last two years I photographed at different stations, mainly in Hungary and Romania.«

The Hungarian author and film-maker Petra Szöcs presents a series of photographs, that were taken at different stations in Germany, Hungary and Romania.

During the opening she will also present a video and she will give a reading from her recently published volume of poems Das dänische Puder (Edition Solitude).
