Niccolò Jommelli: Didone abbandonata – A Baroque festival in the Carl Eugen courtyard

Date: Aug 1, 2009, 20:30 Uhr

Duration:

Location: Schloss Solitude

The Akademie Schloss Solitude and Musik Podium Stuttgart invite guests to an artistic-musical night, which promises a special ambience in the Solitude castle’s inner courtyard. The open-air performance’s focus is Niccolò Jommelli’s opera Didone abbandonata, performed under the musical direction of Frieder Bernius and the direction of Akademie Schloss Solitude fellow Nelly Danker. At the beginning of the 1990s, Frieder Bernius discovered the Baroque masterpiece, which he recorded with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra in 1995. Now, a scenic performance of the nearly forgotten opera occurs for the first time since the 18th century. The audience can anticipate a rollicking party … just like it was during the time of Carl Eugen, in whose courtyard Jommelli’s masterpiece world premiered in 1783. The Classical Philharmonic Stuttgart plays under the musical direction of Frieder Bernius and the direction of Nelly Danker.

Soloists: Andrea L. Brown (Didone), Valer Barna-Sabadus (Enea), Carlos Zapien (Iarba), Sarah Wegener (Selene), Alex Potter (Araspe).
