»Nocturnal Crossings« A project by Bongile Gorata Lecoge-Zulu, Johana Gómez & Jasmin Schädler
What if falling asleep resembled crossing a border?
Nocturnal Crossings is an immersive performance that explores the connections between sleep, migration, and systems of mobility. Moving through a fictional transit facility, audiences become travellers embarking on a somnambulist journey in search of sleep. Along the way, they encounter fellow wanderers of the night and officials of the imagined Republic of Sleep, where access, belonging, and rest are unequally distributed.
Blending performance, sound, light, and integrated audio description, Nocturnal Crossings reflects on states of transition in which identity, perception, and control begin to shift. The work invites audiences to consider sleep not only as a biological necessity but also as a space where questions of borders, privilege, and belonging unfold.
