DER SOMMER IN STUTTGART ’09

With Civil Courage, the Stuttgart State Opera’s »zeitoper« (opera of the times) series and the Akademie Schloss Solitude dedicate themselves to a topic within architectural/acoustic city research. The focus is on the »public space«. What does it mean? Is it a city’s center of life, a stage for an ideal world or a haven for the disenfranchised? What happens when this place becomes a location for discussion and interpersonal understanding?

Director and Solitude fellow Marcelo Cardoso Gama explores the »public space« with these questions. Who demonstrates for whom or what? It’s not a hero, but rather the people and their everyday lives stand in the epicenter – represented by members of the choir of the State Opera of Stuttgart, youths from the »Junge Oper«, children from the Children’s Choir and members of the Paul-Gerhardt Choir. Director: Marcelo Cardoso Gama, musical director: Bernhard Epstein
