Born 1979 in Mexico City/Mexico.

Hugo Morales Murguia works and lives as a freelance composer in The Hague/Netherlands. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in composition and sonology from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and the Institute of Sonology respectively. In 2011 he received his doctoral degree in composition from the Centre for Contemporary Music Practice at Brunel University in London/Great Britain.

His recent projects include Composer in Residence with Ensemble Modelo62 (2010–2012) and Stipendium Compositie from the Nederlands Fonds voor Podiumkunsten (2013–2014), which included the commission of eight new pieces for performers like Anne LaBerge, Barbara Lueneburg, and Richard Craig. He was commissioned by ensembles like Champ d’action, Slagwerk Den Haag, and Verixe Sonora.

Hugo Morales Murguia has received several academic scholarships, international composition prizes and commissions from institutions like Gaudeamus Muziekweek, Jurggensson, Foro de Música Nueva, MATA Festival, SPOOR, and others.
