Karolina Kaltschnee studied sinology, Romance philology and Slavic studies at the University of Cologne/Germany. She graduated with a degree in western Slavic literature and French. She was part of the 15th cohort to graduate from the Reportageschule in Reutlingen/Germany, a private school of journalism. For her final project, she authored a report with Jasmina Hanf on the rigid abortion laws in Poland, which appeared in various publications in Switzerland (Tagesanzeiger magazine), Austria (Profil) and Germany (Tagesspiegel). In 2021, she completed an internship at ZEITmagazin in Berlin. She has been working as a freelance journalist since 2020, and has spent most of her time in Warsaw/Poland since 2021. In 2021, she was awarded the Gabriel Gruener Fellowship, which she shares with Jasmina Hanf.
