Born 1970 in Buenos Aires.

He studied playwriting and drama with Mauricio Kartun, Ricardo Bartis and José Sanchis Sinisterra, among others.

Rafael Spregelburd lives in Buenos Aires where he works in the theatre as a writer, director, actor and translator. A clear exponent of Argentinian theatre, his work is hybrid and polemical and rejects labels and fashions.

He has been awarded over 30 local and international prizes, including the Tirso de Molina, the Municipal, the Argentores, Teatro del Mundo, María Guerrero and the Clarín.

In 1994 he founded his own theatre company: “El Patrón Vázquez”, with which he has traveled to numerous festivals abroad: México, Brazil, Spain, Germany, UK, Portugal, Colombia, Uruguay, Venezuela.

In 1998 Spregelburd was Resident Author at the Royal Court Theatre International Summer Residency, London. During 2000-2001 he works as “Hausautor” for the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. From 2004 on he has often collaborated with the Berlin Schaubühne and the Theaterhaus Stuttgart.

Spregelburd has written around 30 theatre plays. Some of his most renowned works are “La modestia”, “La estupidez”, “El pánico”, “Dos personas diferentes dicen hace buen tiempo”, “La extravagancia”, “La inapetencia”, “Fractal”, “Un momento argentino”, “La escala humana” and “Bizarra”, and have been translated into German, English, French, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Portuguese and Czech.
