On Thursday, November 17th, 2011, the Akademie opens the exhibitions of Reynold Reynolds, Sienna Shields, Bettina Lehmann and Sybille Neumeyer.

During the opening reception, the Korean artist Eunjung Hwang will present her just recently finished book "Future Pleasures" and Dr. Monika Wulz, department of philosophy of TU Braunschweig will give an introduction into the historical and methodical context of Reynold Reynold’s film project "The Lost“.

REYNOLD REYNOLDS "THE LOST"
Reynold Reynolds (*1966 in Alaska/USA) first studied Physics during his undergraduate schooling before he changed his focus to studio art to study under experimental filmmaker Stan Brakhage. Influenced early on by philosophy and science, and working primarily with 16mm as an art medium, he has developed a film grammar based on transformation, consumption and decay. He presents selections of his new project "The Lost“ including large printed photographs from decayed negatives, 16mm film, and found objects.

SIENNA SHIELDS "ARRIGETCH"*
Sienna Shields (*1976 in Alaska/USA) primarily works as video and performance artist but also as photographer, painter, costume and stage designer. Her projects mostly develop out of cooperations with other artists, using a variety of different media. With "Arrigetch", she creates an installation of film poems relating to reaching through memory, time and place.. *(Inupiat, meaning fingers of the outstretched hand).

BETTINA LEHMANN & SYBILLE NEUMEYER "1:x – THE INVISIBLE PART OF THE ICEBERG"
Bettina Lehmann (*1981 in Frankfurt/Oder), art historian, curator and cultural manager, and Sybille Neumeyer (*1982 in Neumarkt), communication designer, deal with unfinished projects in their installation. Etymologically, “project“ means a process pointing at future accomplishment. Therefore, an unfinished project is an oxymoron. Before the implementation of a project plans, sketches, models, descriptions, and applications are necessary, which never (or rarely) catch sight of the public. Promotion programs, interests of the curators, times, and places influence the realization or rejection of artistic work of the fundus of unrealized projects: keel or tip of the creative iceberg.

EUNJUNG HWANG "FUTURE PLEASURES"
The Korean artist Eunjung Hwang (*1971 in Seoul/South Korea) presents her recently finished artist book "Future Pleasures". It shows the development process of her numerous animations and media works for which the first step always is a drawing.
