Maria Cecilia Reyes is a colombian media researcher and creator living at the intersection between Europe and Latin America, real reality and virtual reality. Maria Cecilia holds a dual PhD degree in digital humanities and communication from the University of Genoa/Italy and the Universidad del Norte/Colombia, and wrote her thesis on interactive fiction in cinematic virtual reality. She currently works as a video maker and VR developer within the e-learning division of the University of Genoa, and as a researcher at the Istituto per le tecnologie didattiche of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR-ITD). Maria Cecilia’s previous positions include those of radio reporter, webmaster, content editor and start-up entrepreneur. She has developed several interactive VR experiences, such as ZENA, an interactive VR film (2018), Le Marittime Irraggiungibili (2016) and others.

She is also a screenwriter and film editor. Her film NIJOLE (2018), was screened at LeipzigDOK/Germany (2018), the Festival Internacional de Cine de Cartagena de Indias in Cartagena/Colombia (2019), DOCSBarcelona/Spain (2019), BiografilmFEST/Italy, (2019) and VDFF Vilnius Documentary Film Festival/ Lithuania (2019).
