From August 2 to August 12, 2014 the »Africa in Solitude« fellows are guests and perform at the Osthang Project Darmstadt and at the International Summer Courses for New Music Darmstadt. Within the frame of the OPEN-SPACE program they set up a program for a whole day on August 10, 2014 with a reading and performances to present current projects – also in cooperation with other fellows from Akademie Schloss Solitude.
In 2014, Akademie Schloss Solitude organizes a special program for African artists from the field of performing arts, supported by the new program of the Federal Cultural Foundation »TURN – Fund for Artistic Cooperation between Germany and African Countries«. This initiative is not meant to be a one-time opportunity but aims at permanently improving the network between African artists and the German dance scene to strengthen the role of performers from the African continent in the international cultural scene.
The manifold theater and dance landscape of the African continent plays an important role for the social discourses which are currently taking place in African cities and metropolises. More than ever they need to be internationally connected to engage in a lasting and equal exchange with artists and cultural actors from Europe.
For this purpose Akademie Schloss Solitude initiated cooperations with diverse festivals in Germany to give the selected fellows the possibility to participate as guests or spectators. The following festivals are now official partners of »Africa in Solitude«: Theater der Welt in Mannheim, Ostcamp Project in Darmstadt and International Summer Course for New Music Darmstadt and Ruhrtriennale in Essen. Within the framework of the program listed below, which was arranged together with the festival partners, the participants will visit workshops, seminars and events and also perform.
