The six projects of the 22nd Web Residencies »Ignore All Previous Instructions« have now been announced!

With the Web Residencies Call N° 22, !Mediengruppe Bitnik invited artists to create works that challenge extractive digital platforms and AI systems. Six projects were selected, all of which explore creative ways of interrupting, hijacking, and glitching dominant technological systems – from ad tech surveillance to prompt injection vulnerabilities – imaging alternative structures and communication methods. The projects by the Web Residents coming from varied backgrounds range from simulations and digital curses to app subversions probing the boundaries of co-opting digital mechanics and infrastructures.

During the selection of a group of six international projects from 398 submissions, the jury was impressed by the highly sophisticated and professional level of the artistic approaches to the call for »Ignore All Previous Instructions.« The selected projects propose to exploit digital technologies as tools to invert existing hierarchies that extend into the digital realm. They also aim to reveal digital space as a site of power dynamics, veiled violences, and extractionist logics. Their shared visions reimagine the use of technology as tools for solidarity, genuine connection, and collective care.
